Dreaming of ditching the daily grind for a simpler, more sustainable life? Living off-grid can truly be a life-changer, bringing ease, independence, and a renewed connection to nature into our busy modern lives. But the best part? It’s not as daunting as it seems.
Far from a doom-and-gloom survivalist, author George Peters relies on humor, heart, and decades of real-world experience to guide you through the joys and challenges of building a self-reliant lifestyle. From sourcing water and generating power to growing food and planning your dream site, you'll learn practical systems and skills for modern independence. But more than that, you’ll discover how to reclaim your peace, your joy in everyday moments, and your sense of adventure.
Born in East Africa and seasoned by a life of global travels, military service, and hands-on homesteading in Scotland, where he retired to a small island with his wife and their cat, George brings a storyteller’s warmth and a tinkerer’s wisdom to every page. This is not a technical manual. It’s a refreshingly honest, delightfully humorous, and ever-practical invitation to live more simply—and more fully—wherever you are on your journey.
About the Author
George Peters was born in Tanganyika, now Tanzania, in East Africa in 1950, where his early life in the wide outdoors provided a good grounding for his ever-enquiring mind and spirit of adventure. He first experienced off-grid living during family holidays on a dilapidated, isolated turkey farm in the ‘up country’ Kenyan countryside, where there was no running water, no sanitation, and no electricity, but there were streams, hills, woods, blue skies, and wild animals, the important things. The family returned to the UK when he was eight; later, life led him for a spell into the military, and later to Scotland, where he worked on an estate with fish farming interests, then on to a salmon farm, before starting a teaching and lecturing career both in the UK and further afield in Saudi Arabia, and Azerbaijan. He retired to a small island on the west coast of Scotland, where he now lives with his wife and their cat.
Reviews
“Off-Grid Living: A Lighthearted Guide to Self-Sufficient Living is real, fun, and refreshingly easy to read. The author injects humor with brief tips on power, water, heating, and grow-your-own-food systems, and renders self-sufficiency feasible rather than intimidating. If you want to consider off-grid living or want to dip your toes in, then the book offers encouragement, enlightenment, and a lighthearted perspective.”

Working Together
“This was my first book, and to be frank, it was daunting. Robin took my project to her heart and led with advice, encouragement, and outright professionalism. She tells you what she can do, and does it 110%, which far exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to seeing you on the next project.”
