Draft2Digital (D2D) distributes your ebook to Apple Books, Kobo, Nook, and other retailers from a single account, and pays you in one unified payment. Setup takes about 15 minutes. Here’s what you need and how to do it.
What you need before you start
A valid email address.
Bank account information or PayPal, for receiving royalty payments from book sales. Draft2Digital offers a unified payment for all retailers.
Tax information. You’ll complete a tax interview, which may require your Tax ID number (SSN or ITIN for US individuals, or EIN for business entities).
Step 1: Create your account
Go to draft2digital.com and click “Sign up.”
Enter your details: your name, a valid email address, and a password.
Review and agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
Click “Create Account.”
Step 2: Verify your email address
After you submit your information, a welcome message appears.
Open your email inbox, find the confirmation email from Draft2Digital, and click the verification link to activate your account.
You’ll be redirected to the login page. Log in with the credentials you just created.
Step 3: Complete your account profile
Once you’re logged in, your dashboard will prompt you to complete your author profile and payment information. Click “My Account” or the prompt to fill in the missing fields.
Part A: Author details
Legal name and contact information: your legal name, address, and contact phone number.
Author or imprint name: the name displayed to readers. You can use your pen name, business name, or legal name.
Default currency: the currency used for display. Royalty payments are converted based on the payment method you choose next.
Part B: Payment details (how you get paid)
Draft2Digital offers several ways to receive royalties:
Direct Deposit (US only): your bank routing number and account number.
Payoneer: for publishers outside the US who prefer local currency transfers.
PayPal: your PayPal email address.
Check: an option if you can’t use the others, though it may involve fees and delays.
Enter the details for your chosen method and save them.
Step 4: Complete the tax interview
You must complete the tax interview before you can receive any royalty payments.
Go to the “Tax Information” section in your account settings.
Start the tax interview. A series of questions determines the right tax form (W-9 for US persons, W-8BEN for foreign persons, and so on).
Provide your Tax ID number: your SSN, ITIN, or EIN.
Sign the completed tax form electronically and submit it.
Step 5: Verify and start publishing
Once Author Details, Payment Details, and Tax Information are all completed and saved, your account is fully set up. Your dashboard should now show the option to “Add New Book” or “Start a New Series.”
Note: Draft2Digital recently implemented a $20 setup fee. You’ll need to pay this before publishing your first book.
Common Draft2Digital mistakes and pro tips
Skipping the tax interview. If you don’t submit tax information, D2D is legally required to withhold 30% of your earnings. Complete it before your first book goes live.
Expecting payment right after a sale. D2D only pays once your accrued royalties reach a minimum: $10 for PayPal or Direct Deposit, $20 for Payoneer or international EFT, and $100 for check.
Adding a title page, copyright page, or “Also By” section to your Word file. D2D’s conversion tool generates these pages (and a table of contents) from your account info. Upload only your story content for the cleanest conversion.
Styling chapter titles inconsistently. Use one consistent style for every chapter title so the system finds your chapter breaks. Bold and/or a larger font size is the easiest method.
Mixing KDP Select with wide distribution. If you want D2D to distribute your book to Apple, Kobo, Nook, and others, don’t enroll the ebook in KDP Select (Amazon’s exclusive program).
